Double-click Network Unity Chat.exe. Windows might show a blue SmartScreen popup — scroll down to see how to handle it.
Run Updater.bat any time to grab the latest version. It swaps the EXE out automatically.
Why does Windows warn you?
The first time you open the app, Windows may show a blue screen saying “Windows Protected Your PC.” This is not a virus warning — here is what it actually means.
SmartScreen flags apps that don’t have a code-signing certificate from Microsoft. Those certificates cost hundreds of dollars a year. Network Unity Chat is free, so it’s unsigned — which is standard for free and indie tools.
SmartScreen does not scan the file for malware. It only checks whether the developer paid for a certificate. The warning says nothing about whether the app is safe.
Not sure yet? You can use the chat in your browser right now without downloading anything. Visit the full Network Unity site and you’ll see it running there — same app, no install needed.
