What’s Inside

Keep both files in the same folder so the updater can find the EXE. That’s all the setup there is.

How to Install

1

Download the ZIP

Click the button above. If your browser warns you, click Keep to save it.

2

Extract it

Right-click the ZIP → Extract All. Drop the folder anywhere easy to find.

3

Run the EXE

Double-click Network Unity Chat.exe. Windows might show a blue SmartScreen popup — scroll down to see how to handle it.

4

Update whenever

Run Updater.bat any time to grab the latest version. It swaps the EXE out automatically.

Why does Windows warn you?

The first time you open the app, Windows may show a blue screen saying “Windows Protected Your PC.” This is not a virus warning — here is what it actually means.

Why SmartScreen fires

Not a malware scan — a certificate check

SmartScreen flags apps that don’t have a code-signing certificate from Microsoft. Those certificates cost hundreds of dollars a year. Network Unity Chat is free, so it’s unsigned — which is standard for free and indie tools.

SmartScreen does not scan the file for malware. It only checks whether the developer paid for a certificate. The warning says nothing about whether the app is safe.

How to run it anyway

Two clicks
  • When the blue popup appears, click More info — small text below the main message
  • A Run anyway button appears at the bottom — click it
  • The app opens. Windows only asks this once

Not sure yet? You can use the chat in your browser right now without downloading anything. Visit the full Network Unity site and you’ll see it running there — same app, no install needed.
